Mt. Pleasant scored the most points they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 44-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hughes Lions. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-32 back in December of 2024.

Mt. Pleasant's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashley Turner, who posted 12 points. Turner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Tia Webster was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Mt. Pleasant smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Mt. Pleasant has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for Hughes, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-8 record.

Mt. Pleasant will head out to face off against Battle Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Pleasant is facing Battle Creek at the right time seeing as Battle Creek is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Hughes, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Hughes Lions face off against the Santa Fe Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
