Basketball Recap: Fairfax Takes a Loss

If Fairfax was feeling good fresh off their 95-13 takedown of Metro Tech two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Fairfax Stampede were beaten by the Cesar Chavez Champions 76-16 on Friday. The contest marked the Stampede's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Cesar Chavez's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Victoria Ballard led the charge by going 10 of 15 on her way to 23 points along with five assists and four steals. Ballard is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Malia Woodberry, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals.

With the defeat, Fairfax broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-5. As for Cesar Chavez, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing North the next time they take the court. Cesar Chavez will head out to face North at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Fairfax will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
