Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Melbourne's Fourth in Last Five Outings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Viera, Melbourne was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They never let the Bayside Bears get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Sean Gates tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Melbourne's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Conner, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Gabriel Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Melbourne has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Bayside and nudges their season record down to 8-3.

Looking ahead, Melbourne will take on IMG Academy Royal in a tournament on Tuesday. Melbourne's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so IMG Academy Royal's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Bayside, they will welcome Titusville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Titusville has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.44 runs per game on average), something Bayside will no doubt try to take advantage of.
