In this week's postseason power rankings action, one team rose to the occasion while another fell hard. A special shoutout goes to West Seneca West's senior Matt Myers, who scored five total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Welcome
Cambridge was the big favorite in its game against Moriah last week, and for good reason. Cambridge breezed past Moriah with a final score of 54 - 20. Junior Thomas English deserves a lot of the credit as he rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns. The win also thrust Cambridge into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 25th spot.
No Stoppin 'Em
Westhampton Beach has been an offensive powerhouse for three straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. It put the hurt on West Babylon with a conclusive 61 - 21 victory. Westhampton Beach's margin of victory (40 points) marked the biggest win the team has had all season. At 82 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between Cardinal Hayes (7th in the power rankings) and Archbishop Stepinac (5th) did not disappoint. Cardinal Hayes and Archbishop Stepinac were almost perfectly matched up, but Cardinal Hayes suffered an agonizing 13 - 12 defeat. One positive for Cardinal Hayes, at least, was the performance of Sofian Massoud. The talented underclassman threw for 241 yards and gained 65 yards on the ground.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Archbishop Stepinac (5th in the power rankings) and St. Anthony's (3rd). Both teams are entering with last-week wins under their belts. Only one team will win this week, so we'll see which team fails to repeat its success.
