Mayfield entered their tilt with Silver on Saturday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They walked away with a 47-36 victory over the Silver Fighting Colts. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Fighting Colts are ranked 60th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mayfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jazlene Ruiz led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Ruiz has been hot, having also posted four or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ceanna Mckines, who went 7 for 13 en route to 14 points and six boards.

Mayfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 26 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Silver's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Allyson Terrazas, who posted nine points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Terrazas a new career-high in points. Kianna Murillo was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.

Mayfield's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.3 points per game. As for Silver, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.

Mayfield will head out on the road to face off against Las Cruces at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Silver, they will host Hot Springs at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
