Baseball Recap: Midway Finds Home Field Redemption Against Clinton

There's no place like home for Midway, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Clinton Dark Horses with a sharp 8-1 win on Tuesday. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by seven runs or more this season.

Wyatt Herring spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Midway is 5-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-2 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Midway let Wyatt Scott and Wilson Mayo run wild. Scott scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Mayo scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Mayo snagged this season. Cameron Register was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.

Midway is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. Clinton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.

Midway will have a chance to go back-to-back against Clinton: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
