The Philip Barbour Colts will head out on the road to square off against the Lincoln Cougars on Monday. Philip Barbour is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Philip Barbour and Bridgeport had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Colts fell 8-4 to the Indians on Thursday. Colts fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Indians since on Thursday.
Avery McDaniel put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off 13 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Katelyn Cooper was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Payton Holbert was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lincoln). They never let East Fairmont get on the board and left with a 29-0 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bees: they've now won six in a row.
Like Philip Barbour, Lincoln also got a great game from a two-way player: Adriana Elder. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Elder was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Riley Pearlman was incredible, firing off three home runs, nine RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-5. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high. Addie Moore also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Lincoln's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Philip Barbour, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Philip Barbour hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Philip Barbour suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Lincoln in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Colts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
