Baseball Game Preview: Villa Park Spartans vs. Salem Hills Skyhawks

The Villa Park Spartans will take on the Salem Hills Skyhawks in a tournament on Monday. Villa Park's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Salem Hills' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Villa Park picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They came out on top against Laguna Beach by a score of 8-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Val Lopez looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Villa Park let Jake Nobles and Dominic Gutierrez run wild. Nobles went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles, while Gutierrez scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two doubles gave Nobles a new career-high. Nate Lewis was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Salem Hills suffered their closest defeat since May 21, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Pacifica by a score of 8-6.

Kaleb DeGraffenried was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Villa Park's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Salem Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
