Baseball Game Preview: South Hills Huskies vs. Colony Titans

For the second straight game, South Hills will face off against Colony. The Huskies will venture away from home to take on the Titans at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. South Hills is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.

On Wednesday, South Hills needed a bit of extra time to put away Colony. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Titans, sneaking past 5-4.

Zack Escalera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Escalera was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one run and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Joseph Moreno tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Diego Villarreal and Ayden Vieth did most of the damage at the plate: Villarreal went 3-for-5 with one run and one double, while Vieth got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double. That's the most runs Vieth has posted since back in March. Gabriel Guerrero also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

South Hills' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.75 runs across that stretch. As for Colony, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Hills has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Colony struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
