Football Recap: Midland Christian Comes Up Short

After soaring to 31 points the game before, Midland Christian was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They were beaten by the All S Saints 45-10. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Saints recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Even if they lost, Midland Christian's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Cadyn Bishop and Isaiah Mathews, who racked up all four sacks between them. Bishop is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last 20 games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in All S' side was Coy Hayes, who made 15 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Gavin Beard produced another solid performance throwing for 373 yards and four touchdowns while completing 79.3% of his passes for All S. Those 373 passing yards gave Beard a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hattan French, who picked up 127 receiving yards and one TD.

Midland Christian's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-3. As for All S, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.

Midland Christian and All S should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Mustangs will face off against Grapevine Faith Christian at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st with a big rank advantage (222 vs. 570). Meanwhile, All S (ranked 106th) will meet Fort Worth Christian (ranked 286th) at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,098 yards in their previous games.
