Baseball Recap: Los Osos Comes Up Short

Los Osos had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 7-14 to make it five. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 on Monday.

Taylor Chairez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Los Osos is 2-1 when Chairez posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-13 otherwise.

As for Rancho Cucamonga, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Rancho Cucamonga's side, they gave Mason Sanchez the start and clearly made the right call: he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Sanchez has posted since back in March.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ethan Diaz, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Chad Tanner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

While Los Osos had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
