Baseball Game Preview: Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals

The Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks will square off against the Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Miller School of Albemarle comes in on seven and Cardinal Newman on four.

Miller School of Albemarle's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past The Covenant 7-0. Considering the Mavericks have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Caleb Crawford, who gave up just three hits to keep The Covenant off the board. Crawford has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mandela Browman was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted over his last eight contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Tomlinson, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Miller School of Albemarle hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Cardinal Newman ultimately got the result they hoped for last Saturday. They had just enough and edged out White Knoll 13-12.

Miller School of Albemarle pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Newman, their record now sits at 6-4.
