Rancho Verde has gone a perfect 7-0 against Vista del Lago recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Rancho Verde Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Vista del Lago Ravens at 3:15 p.m. Rancho Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Rancho Verde will head out to face Vista del Lago after giving up their first home loss of the season on Monday. Rancho Verde fell just short of Notre Dame by a score of 9-7. The Mustangs just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Hector Rivas made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jacob Cabral, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Rancho Verde was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Vista del Lago never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Cathedral City last Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 10-2 victory. Considering the Ravens have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Billy Cervantes looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rocky Mendoza, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. AJ Nevarez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Vista del Lago now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Rancho Verde, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 5-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rancho Verde has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Vista del Lago struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Rancho Verde beat Vista del Lago 4-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rancho Verde since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
