Baseball Game Preview: Wilson Memorial Green Hornets vs. Alleghany Cougars

The Wilson Memorial Green Hornets are taking a road trip to square off against the Alleghany Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Wilson Memorial is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Last Tuesday, Wilson Memorial didn't have quite enough to beat Turner Ashby and fell 7-6.

Parker Baucom made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Ryan McDaniel also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Even though they lost, Wilson Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Alleghany challenged Rockbridge County on Wednesday. Alleghany sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Rockbridge County.

Wilson Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Alleghany, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Wilson Memorial suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Alleghany in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Wilson Memorial avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
