Baseball Recap: Botkins' Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Botkins hadn't done well against Perry recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Trojans won by a run and slipped past the Commodores 3-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Quinn Koenig spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Botkins' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-7 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Botkins' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Treg Meyer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. Meyer has become a key player for the Trojans: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise.

Botkins' victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Perry, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4.

Coming up, Botkins will take on Fort Loramie at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Perry, they will venture away from home to face off against Elgin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
