Softball Game Preview: West Covina Bulldogs vs. Garey Vikings

The West Covina Bulldogs will face off against the Garey Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Garey took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on West Covina, who comes in off a win.

West Covina took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Thursday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over Northview.

Leslie Baustista made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Sophia Adler was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Hazel Manzano was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

West Covina was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northview only posted a batting average of .238.

Meanwhile, Garey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Nogales. Even if the Vikings couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Garey's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for West Covina, their win bumped their record up to 7-8-1.

Everything went West Covina's way against Garey in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as West Covina made off with an 8-1 victory. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
