Softball Recap: Loyola Academy Ramblers vs. Lane Tech Champions
Loyola Academy extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping them down to 8-10. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lane Tech Champions. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Ramblers have suffered since April 10th.
Gabby Berndt made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Moira Divane, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
As for Lane Tech, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.
On Lane Tech's side, Eleanor Jacobson looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Jacobson has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lane Tech got a massive performance out of Alison Mahoney, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Mahoney a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amelia Volkens, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Loyola Academy will face off against Montini Catholic at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lane Tech, they will venture away from home to take on Payton College Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
