Baseball Recap: Mullen Comes Up Short

Mullen extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 5-9. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Grandview Wolves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-4 on Thursday.

As for Grandview, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

For Grandview's part, Mullen's batters probably weren't too happy with Ethan Wachsmann, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (he gave up three walks). Wachsmann has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mullen is set to take on their familiar foe Smoky Hill at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Grandview will face off against rival Arapahoe at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
