Soccer Game Preview: Highland Home vs. Houston Academy

The Highland Home Flying Squadron will head out to take on the Houston Academy Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Highland Home has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Houston Academy will arrive with six straight wins.

Highland Home managed to keep up with Long until halftime on Monday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Flying Squadron lost 3-0 to the Rebels.

Meanwhile, Houston Academy kept a clean sheet against Barbour County on Tuesday. They blew past the Jaguars 10-0. Considering Houston Academy have won 16 matches by more than two goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Their offense was hitting Barbour County from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Nate Selig led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for four goals all by himself.

Houston Academy's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 58 goals over those eight games. As for Highland Home, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Highland Home suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Houston Academy when the teams last played back in March. Can the Flying Squadron avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
