Baseball Game Preview: Youngker Roughriders vs. Desert Edge Scorpions

The Youngker Roughriders will face off against the Desert Edge Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Youngker is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Last Tuesday, Youngker made easy work of Buckeye and carried off an 11-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Roughriders, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Derrick Linley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Riley Carteno, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Xavier Maldonado also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Youngker was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Desert Edge lost 15-1 to Canyon View on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Scorpions in their meetings with the Jaguars: they've now lost six in a row.

Desert Edge saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rene Ruiz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Youngker's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Desert Edge, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Youngker beat Desert Edge 4-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Will the Roughriders repeat their success, or do the Scorpions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
