Recap: Yulee Hornets vs. Fernandina Beach Pirates

The Yulee Hornets lost against the Fernandina Beach Pirates back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Yulee fell to Fernandina Beach 55-49. Yulee has struggled against Fernandina Beach recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Yulee's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ace Walker, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Walker has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Austin, who scored 18 points.

Even though they lost, Yulee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fernandina Beach only pulled down two offensive rebounds.

Fernandina Beach can attribute much of their success to Miles Townsend, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Townsend continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chase Landtroop, who scored 13 points.

Yulee has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Fernandina Beach, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-7.

Yulee will be playing at home against Episcopal School of Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fernandina Beach, they will head out on the road to square off against Hilliard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilliard is on a five-game streak of home wins, Fernandina Beach a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
