It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Chaparral had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Nogales Apaches a 22-0 shutout. Considering the Firebirds have won seven games by more than 21 points this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kendyll Dinh produced another solid effort picking up 80 receiving yards and two scores. She didn't just play on offense: she also made three total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Chaparral didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Stella Hulse led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by herself. Kaelie Weishaar got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Chaparral's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.3 points over those games. As for Nogales, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-7 record.

Looking ahead, Chaparral will host North at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs' defense has only allowed 1.8 points per game this season, so the Firebirds' offense will have their work cut out for them. Nogales does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
