Baseball Recap: St. Michael Takes a Loss

St. Michael had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-6 to make it five. They lost 16-1 to the Joseph City Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on Wednesday.

As for Joseph City, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1-1. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Joseph City's part, JJ Sander made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Sander was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cort Miller, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Tytan Penrod was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, St. Michael will challenge Ash Fork/Seligman at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Joseph City, they will take on Window Rock at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Fighting Scouts have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.6 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
