If Gautier was riding high fresh off their 39-0 takedown of Moss Point last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gators fell just short of the Greene County Wildcats by a score of 24-21 on Friday. The Gators were not able to make up for their loss to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in September of 2019.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Keon McNeil, who threw for 260 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in one rushing score. A'shaun Tubbs was McNeil's top target, picking up 90 receiving yards and one TD.

Even if they lost, Gautier's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was Demarrion Gainer-Wonsley with two. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven.

Gage Stinson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Greene County, throwing for 144 yards and one touchdown on only 13 passes, while also rushing for 35 yards. Those 35 rushing yards gave Stinson a new career-high.

Gautier now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Greene County, their record is now 4-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gautier will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Long Beach at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Greene County, they will square off against Pass Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Stinson and Paris Trivillion.
