Section 11 Division II recap November 5, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in Section 11 Division II this week, Riverhead beat Newfield 21-8. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Blue Waves.
East Islip was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in the league. The Redmen vanquished Smithtown East 41-7 earlier in the week.
Riverhead's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Blue Waves feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Cody Smith has thrown for 1,019 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Jaron Greenidge has 35 catches for 371 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when East Islip takes on the Bulls. At the moment, Sal Ciampi's team is in third, while Smithtown East is in fifth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Riverhead takes on Half Hollow Hills West. The Blue Waves have allowed 111 points this season, while the Colts have given up 126. Riverhead allowed 8 points last week as it defeated the Wolverines.
Walt Whitman moved up to 496 from 524 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 11 Division II. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Bay Shore 49-6.
