Softball Recap: Gillespie's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Gillespie had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They never let the Carlinville Cavaliers get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Miners also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Not much got past Sadie Sholtis, who gave up just ten hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Carlinville off the board. Sholtis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Paxton Reid, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Gillian Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Gillespie's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Carlinville, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5.

Coming up, Gillespie will face off against Greenfield/Northwestern at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Miners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Carlinville, they will challenge Sacred Heart-Griffin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
