Game recap: La Villa holds off Progreso

La Villa (Texas) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 14 points, drop to eight before the final whistle blew on a 28-20 victory over Progreso (Texas).

After taking the lead on a rushing touchdown in the second quarter, the Cardinals led 14-7 at the half.

Gilbert Trevino made a difference for the Red Ants. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown.

The loss comes after Progreso defeated Pharr Oratory 71-6 last week. The loss snapped Progreso's 2-game winning streak.

Progreso (2-3) goes up against Port Isabel in a 3A Region IV District 32 game matchup next week, while La Villa (5-2) locks horns with Pharr Oratory in a non-conference game.
