Basketball Recap: North Gaston Comes Up Short

North Gaston lost against Crest back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The North Gaston Wildcats lost 63-40 to the Crest Chargers. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Chargers 13-7 in the first quarter.

Despite the defeat, North Gaston saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ranya Watkins went 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points and five rebounds. Those 15 points gave Watkins a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alisa Powe, who posted eight points.

North Gaston dropped their record down to 2-6 with the loss, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Crest, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

North Gaston will be playing in front of their home fans against Huss at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Huss is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.2 points per game this season. As for Crest, they will venture away from home to face off against Shelby at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
