Softball Preview: Godley Wildcats vs. Venus Bulldogs

The Godley Wildcats will take on the Venus Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Godley is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

Godley's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Life Waxahachie 16-0. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by seven runs or more this season.

Karlee Clark made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Godley got a big performance out of Alyssa Sullivan, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs Sullivan has posted since back in April of 2024. Bree Hubbard was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Godley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Life Waxahachie struck out six times.

Meanwhile, Venus entered their contest against Hillsboro on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Venus took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hillsboro.

Godley's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Venus, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-4-1.

Godley took their win against Venus in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-0. Will Godley repeat their success, or does Venus have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
