Soccer Game Preview: Holmes vs. Southwest Onslow

The Holmes Aces will square off against the Southwest Onslow Stallions on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Holmes is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 4-1 margin over Granville Central. Winning may never get old, but Holmes sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Emma Parrish and Kate Foster scored all four of Holmes' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 84 goals.

Meanwhile, Southwest Onslow kept a clean sheet against South Columbus on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over South Columbus. Given Southwest Onslow's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while South Columbus is ranked 379th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Holmes' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-9-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those three contests. As for Southwest Onslow, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3-3.

Holmes might still be hurting after the 5-0 defeat they got from Southwest Onslow in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Aces avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
