Baseball Game Preview: El Camino Wildcats vs. Escondido Cougars

The El Camino Wildcats will be taking part in a tournament against the Escondido Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

El Camino had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Mission Vista on Tuesday. El Camino was the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over Mission Vista. The Wildcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27, 2024.

Kaden Zimmerman looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Ethan Stelzer was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Isaiah Saldivar was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.

El Camino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mission Vista only posted an OBP of .167.

Meanwhile, Escondido sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Oceanside on Tuesday.

Escondido also got a great performance from Ronnie Witt as he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched.

At the plate, Escondido saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Augie Albert, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Escondido's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for El Camino, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 2-0.
