Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Springfield). Everything went their way against the Buchtel Griffins on Thursday as they made off with an 18-3 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Alex Salazar looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit.
At the plate, Barron Lang was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabe Jurmanovich, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.
Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 4-18. As for Buchtel, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.
Coming up, Springfield will square off against Ellet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Orangemen have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. Buchtel does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
