Football Recap: Concord Takes a Loss

If Concord was feeling good fresh off their 47-19 takedown of San Lorenzo last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bears and the Irvington Vikings were almost perfectly matched up on Saturday, but the Bears suffered a 43-42 loss. The Bears were up 42-28 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Concord's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Juan Gonzalez, who threw for 316 yards and four TDs while completing 77.3% of his passes. Chris Dunn was in the mix as well, providing the Bears with two scores.

Irvington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vivaan Tiwari led the charge by throwing for 303 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes, and also punching in one TD on the ground. Gabrial Aruwah was Tiwari's top target, picking up 131 receiving yards and three scores.

Concord's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Irvington, their win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-1.

Concord wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 41-14 victory against Mt. Eden on the 26th. As for Irvington, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-42 win against Skyline on the 27th.
