Basketball Recap: Munster Starts Season with Loss at Home

Munster unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Merrillville Pirates by a score of 39-36 on Saturday. The Mustangs lost against the Pirates in their previous head to head back in November of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 68-42 score last time.

Munster lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Igboamaka Odeluga, who posted six points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Arroya Mongerie, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Merrillville pushed their record up to 1-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Munster is headed away from home for the first time to square off against Michigan City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Merrillville, they will head out to face off against Elkhart at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
