Vestaburg had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Belding Black Knights as they made off with an 8-2 win. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Addison Neelis made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Megan Beetley was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Emma Myers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Vestaburg's victory bumped their record up to 19-3. As for Belding, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vestaburg will welcome Breckenridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.77 runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Belding, they will host Kelloggsville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
