Basketball Recap: Walnut Ridge Sets Scoring Season-High Against South

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Walnut Ridge). They secured a 66-60 W over the South Bulldogs on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Scots sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Walnut Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nyah Hubbard, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. Hubbard's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nakushe Alsop, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

Walnut Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Walnut Ridge pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for South, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walnut Ridge will head out to square off against Africentric Early College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South, they will venture away from home to take on West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South is facing West at the right time seeing as West is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
