Baseball Recap: Mercer Island Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Mercer Island's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Bellevue Wolverines. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Islanders have posted since April 26, 2024.

Mercer Island got a great performance from Chase Koehler as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. The Islanders are 2-1 when Koehler allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-7 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Baird Sirriani, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tino Pizzo, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

With the win, Mercer Island broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-8. As for Bellevue, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Mercer Island will square off against Newport - Bellevue at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bellevue, they will take on Ellensburg at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
