Basketball Recap: Kofa Kings vs. Gila Ridge Hawks

Kofa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 75-33 loss at the hands of the Gila Ridge Hawks. The Kings lost against the Hawks in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 53-52 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Kofa saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mark Mercado went 6 of 11 en route to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Curiel, who posted five points.

Kofa's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Gila Ridge, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kofa will square off against San Luis at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gila Ridge, they will challenge Yuma at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
