Baseball Game Preview: Redwood Christian Eagles vs. Athenian Owls

Redwood Christian has gone 9-1 against Athenian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Redwood Christian Eagles take on Athenian Owls at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Redwood Christian barely beat St. Vincent de Paul the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Redwood Christian blew past St. Vincent de Paul 20-8 on Friday. The Eagles' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Gil Butler looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Cooper Fanucchi was incredible, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Travis Dong was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Redwood Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Athenian got the win against Mare Island Tech Academy on Monday by a conclusive 15-1. The result was nothing new for the Owls, who have now won five matches by 14 runs or more so far this season.

Redwood Christian's record is now 3-0. As for Athenian, their record is now 5-1.

Redwood Christian took their win against Athenian in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1. Will Redwood Christian repeat their success, or does Athenian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
