Baseball Recap: Humphreys County Beats Yazoo County for Their Tenth Straight Victory

Humphreys County waltzed into their game on Friday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over the Yazoo County Panthers. For the Cowboys, this counts as revenge for the 15-0 win the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Xaylen Henderson made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

Henderson wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kuriston Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Smith has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another was Percy Jefferson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Humphreys County pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Yazoo County, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Humphreys County will challenge Winona at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Yazoo County, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Yazoo County Panthers face off against Edwards Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
