Softball Recap: Downers Grove South Takes a Loss

Downers Grove South had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 11-16 to make it four. They came up short against the Downers Grove North Trojans, falling 13-3. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 6-3 to the Trojans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jacklyn Meyers and Victoria Colorato stepped up to the plate in a big way. Meyers went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Colorato went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

As for Downers Grove North, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

On Downers Grove North's side, Ella Bonk was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Bonk has posted since back in April. Sophia Barofsky was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.

Looking ahead, Downers Grove South will venture away from home to challenge York at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dukes have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Downers Grove North, they will host Andrew at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 3.6, the Thunderbolts 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
