Softball Recap: Lynchburg-Clay Wins Going Away Against Georgetown

Lynchburg-Clay made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Georgetown, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Lynchburg-Clay put the hurt on Georgetown with a sharp 17-2 victory on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Noel Barnhill made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Caitlyn Collins was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmine Brown, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Lynchburg-Clay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Lynchburg-Clay now has a winning record of 2-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lynchburg-Clay beat Georgetown by a score of 19-8 later that day.
