Basketball Game Preview: Western Dubuque Bobcats vs. Linn-Mar Lions

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Bobcats challenge the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Western Dubuque has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Linn-Mar will arrive with ten straight wins.

Western Dubuque is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Iowa City West on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Western Dubuque was dealt a 68-30 loss at the hands of Iowa City West. The Bobcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-12.

Meanwhile, Linn-Mar faced Prairie in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Linn-Mar came out on top against Prairie by a score of 69-57. The score was all tied up 33-33 at the break, but the Lions were the better team in the second half.

Linn-Mar's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.6 points over those games. As for Western Dubuque, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Western Dubuque came up short against Linn-Mar when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 71-61. Can Western Dubuque avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
