Softball Recap: Vero Beach Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lincoln Park Academy last Friday, Vero Beach came back down to earth. The Indians took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jupiter Warriors on Wednesday. The Indians have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Taylor Stevens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Vero Beach saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabrielle Espich, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Vero Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Jupiter, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

Coming up, Vero Beach will be playing at home against Moore Haven at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Terriers have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Jupiter, they will head out on the road to challenge South Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 1.7, the Bulldogs 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
