Softball Recap: Monterey Wins Going Away Against Pickett County

Monterey made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pickett County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats blew past the Bobcats 19-1 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Haylee Garthwait made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylin Shepherd, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Haylee Trevathan, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Monterey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .722. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Monterey has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Pickett County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Coming up, Monterey will head out on the road to face off against White County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Pickett County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Smith County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
