Recap: Poinciana Eagles vs. Liberty Chargers
The Poinciana Eagles stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 50-22 victory over Liberty. Given Poinciana's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Liberty is ranked 563rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Hakeem Alvena, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Williams, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Liberty saw an underclassman step up: Lamar Lee scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals. Lee is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Liberty struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Poinciana has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Liberty, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
Poinciana will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Liberty won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Varsity Opponent is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
