Baseball Recap: Safford Gets the Win

While Safford's win against Payson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs won by a run and slipped past the Longhorns 6-5. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by just one run.

The team relied heavily on Zayden Sanchez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Deagan Faunce also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Safford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Safford has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Payson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Safford will challenge Rio Rico at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Payson, they will face off against Bourgade Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
