Softball Recap: Myrtle Comes Up Short

Myrtle extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-5. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Poplarville Hornets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hawks have suffered since May 8, 2025.

Brooklyn Streich put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Streich wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mary Ella Mayer, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

As for Poplarville, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

On Poplarville's side, Lindsey Lee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up six Ks.

Looking ahead, Myrtle will square off against West Harrison at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Poplarville, they will challenge East Union at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hornets 3.2, the Urchins 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
