Volleyball Game Preview: McMichael Phoenix vs. North Wilkes Vikings

The McMichael Phoenix will head out on the road to face off against the North Wilkes Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with McMichael sitting on four straight victories and North Wilkes on 17.

McMichael is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Polk County by a score of 3-1.

McMichael had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-23.

McMichael can attribute much of their success to Daisy Pinzon, who had 12 digs. Those 12 digs gave Pinzon a new career-high.

Meanwhile, North Wilkes beat Surry Central 3-1 on Tuesday.

McMichael's win bumped their record up to 22-10. As for North Wilkes, their victory bumped their record up to 22-4.

Everything went McMichael's way against North Wilkes when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as McMichael made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Phoenix since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
