The Millard North Mustangs will face off against the Omaha Westside Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Millard North comes in on four and Omaha Westside on ten.
Last Friday, Millard North made easy work of Papillion-LaVista and carried off a 61-39 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.
Avril Smith was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Clara Welker, who shot 70% from the field en route to 15 points.
Millard North was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Papillion-LaVista only nine assists.
Meanwhile, Omaha Westside was able to grind out a solid victory over Kearney on Friday, taking the game 55-44.
Millard North better keep an eye on Sanai Foster. She was instrumental in Omaha Westside's win, almost dropping a double-double with 18 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Himayajo Metoyer, who posted 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Omaha Westside pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points over those games. As for Millard North, their victory bumped their record up to 22-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Millard North has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Omaha Westside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Millard North came out on top in a nail-biter against Omaha Westside when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 47-45. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Metoyer, who put up 21 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Millard North still be able to contain Metoyer? There's only one way to find out.
